Death1947, Napier Hospital, New Zealand
Misc. Notes
Maurice's family owned the land from the Mission through to Taradale. Maurice had taken up land at Whakaangiangi near Te Araroa on the East Coast in 1913. He did not serve in the Armed Forces as he was medically unfit. He stayed on the land for 30 years. The only access to his property was by fording a river, so in bad weather they were virtually cut off. The family owned a car and visited Napier periodically. Maurice's farm was considered to be a model on the East Coast and he received several prizees for this. He was a workaholic and worked long hours, expecting his staff to do the same. However, he was not interested in improving the home, and in all the time they were there Lucy had to endure an outside copper. Maurice became ill and came to Napier to be near medical aid. He died in the Napier Hospiatl in 1947.
