MORIALTA : HOGAN – WOODFORDE TRACKS

Circuit : 1 hour 20 minutes, 4 km

HOGAN

I wouldn’t place this circuit as a high priority amongst the Morialta walks: it lacks the stunning views, and, in my view, has less diversity of vegetation.  On the other hand, it covers this southern section of the Park.

In outline, leaving the car, we climb the Hogan Hill Track, and follow around to Pretty Corner Lookout. From here we take the high dotted track, looping back and rejoining the Woodforde Track.  Following down, we turn left to complete the Olive Hill Track (also known as the Woodforde Loop Track) before reachng Morialta Falls Road and returning to the car.

Close to where the main track from the Picnic Ground rejoins the Morialta Falls Road, we cross the road to access Hogan Track.  Hogan Track is the gentler zigzag path to the right of the photo ...

.

... while the Hogan Hill Track is the steep zigzag path going up at the left.  We take this one.

Reaching the summit of Hogan Hill there is a view of sorts, as well as the ubiquitous power lines.

A gentle descent from the summit soon brings us to a large and well signed intersection.   We shall veer left up the Pretty Corner Trail ...

... but we notice that the Woodforde Track also starts (finishes) here.

Following up the Pretty Corner Lookout Track there are some limited views, but they are mostly concealed by bush.  After 500 metres we come to a left branching track opposite this sign: it descends to Kookaburra Rock Lookout.  We continue straight ahead.

I have to say that the view from Pretty Corner Lookout is pretty disappointing.  The position is great, but the trees have probably grown some since they put the bench seat here.

From here we take the upward little track which quickly leads to the (New) Norton Summit Road.  Turn right along the near-side of the road, and a narrow track follows down alongside the road.  There has been a fire here fairly recently (2009).  I definitely wouldn't like to be caught in a bush fire ...

Some of the burnt leaves are quite arty!

We soon join on to the Woodforde Track, only a short distance from where it starts.  The best views on this circuit are found along here.  The track is high, and the bush cover thin.  There are views of the city from here as well.

The track passes by a block of Woodforde housing, and then there is a sign-posted Loop Road to the left.   Either continue straight down, or take the left turn here for an easy walk around the boundary of this corner of the Park.  I could find no flowers, and was reduced to photographing grass!

The Loop Track winds back to meet the main Woodforde Track next to its exit on Morialta Falls Road.

We cross the road and make our way back to the car.
