Cliff was born at Goodwood, and after schooling at Goodwood Primary and Unley High, he began work in his father's grocery and hardware store. On the death of his father, Cliff enlisted in the AIF. An old piece of music shows that in 1922 he was living at 'Clifton', Louisa Street, Goodwood. He had a great sense of humour and expressed this as a public entertainer and comedian. He made and played a one-string fiddle. He was artistic and loved his garden. He also had a beautiful tenor voice. Involved in the Goodwood Baptist Church as deacon and in the choir. He also rang the bell, and welcomed all who entered. He often visited Sunday Schools and gave chalk talks to the scholars. Towards the end of his life he was unwell, and had difficulty finding employment. Cliff died due to failure of a mitral heart valve. [Margaret FOREMAN] Receipt shows that Cliff on May 7, 1926 paid £180 as full settlement for part lot A Norman St, Black Forest.
