Birth, Marriage: Gants of Lincolnshire website.

Edward Robert BOLGER, the son of Robert BOLGER, was born in Hobart in 1845, and as a small child came to South Australia with his family. … In 1866, at the home of Cain JELIFF, Edward BOLGER was married to the widowed Mahalia WEYMOUTH, who had lost her husband three years before in an accident on the tramline, leaving her with two small boys. … Four children were born to the BOLGERs: Robert, Alice, Leonard and Theophillus, before Mrs BOLGER died in 1879. With six children to care for, Edward BOLGER married his late wife's eldest sister, the widow Alice JELIFF, who had been married for over twenty years but had no family, although she had cared for an orphaned child of her cousin Benjamin LAST. At least the roadwork provided fairly steady employment, and Kirby's records show that such men as Edward Bolger, … earned fairly steady incomes by contracting for work on the roads, drains and bridged of the district. Probably none of these men had any training in road making or bridge building, but in true pioneer style simply taught themselves by trial and error. The errors were not infrequent, as in the case where Kirby had to tell Edward Bolger to raise the surface of a road he had made and said that the Council were 'determined' the job should be done properly. … Alice BOLGER (nee RUMBELOW) died in 1920 and Edward BOLGER then married Sarah WATSON, the third RUMBELOW sister to become Mrs BOLGER, and it is said, the one he always wanted to marry in the first place. … Mr BOLGER died in 1927 at Strathalbyn. [Settlers around the Bay - Laube]
