In 1851 Census Charles was living at Overlee with his brother Arthur as the head of the family, Charles was named as a servant. He married at 25 to Margaret Thomson with his profession as 'farmer' of Clarkston Toll.
In the 1861 Census he had left Overlee was married and was a grocer living in Main Street Mearns, with his wife and children Mary, Marion Couper and Margaret and a maid servant Janet Allan.
In the 1871 Census he was 40, living at Busby as a grocer.
By 1881 he was living in 10 Cathcart Road, Govan with 7 children, he was a carter.
In 1891 Census Charles is 60 living at 45 Eglinton Street Glasgow as a Grain Merchant working on his own account. With his wife and many of his adult children living in the same house.
1901 Census Charles is 70 living at 23 Danes Drive Scotstoun Renfrew with his wife and 6 of his adult children all unmarried, he is a retired Grain Merchant
Charles died of senile decay, arterio sclorosis, aged 83, Informant Arthur Watson son.
