Misc. Notes
Sibyl was 5'1", with brown eyes, and with long dark hair on top of her head. A pretty girl, softly spoken, not sociable, and a great reader. Whilst living at Awatoto, the Grants lived down the road, but Sibyl was not a sociable person. Only twice did Thelma have friends in for tea. Sibyl and Thelma and Aunty Gert often went to the pictures on a Saturday afternoon. Sibyl spent many nights during her married life home alone reading. She was a keen gardener, and had plants growing in the shingle at Awatoto. She had a life-long habbit of 'nicking' cuttings of plants from over fences or public gardens. Sibyl was often sick, with bilious attacks and headaches. (Later she used to wake up every morning with a headache.) She was a good housewife, cook and good at sewing. She used scalded milk, kept in a brown earthenware jug.
Sibyl used to make non-alcoholic hop beer, and kept the brew ready. During the 1932 quake, it tipped over and flowed out the back door, and every blowfly in NZ came! All the hanging cups came off their hooks. The chimney fell down. The preserves were smashed on the floor. Sibyl coped - she could cope with almost anything. Sibyl and Thelma got on fine, and after Thelma married, Sibyl came to live with Thelma. Sibyl loved poetry: she and Gert learned and recited to each other. Sibyl ived in Greenmeadows at the time of her marriage. She and Albert divorced around 1932. Died of congestive heart failure/Arteriosclerosis/chronic bronchitis, and was cremated.
