Born in Berkshire according to certificate. Buckinghamshire? Married in St Judes Church, upper Chelsea. Lived at 1 Bedford Cottages in 1883. Herbert was a painter and paper-hanger by trade. One of his jobs was to paint the Catholic Church in Napier (later destroyed by arson) which had a very high spire. He had white hair and a white moustache from an early age. He made some rustic garden furniture for the home, and more intricate small wooden boxes decorated with designs of chipping called 'shipcarving'. He giggled, was friendly and always laughing a lot. He had lovely flower and vegetable gardens at both Main Rd and 24 Osier Rd. He used to pay the children 3d a tin for snails!
Died of prostatic hypertrophy and uraemia.
